This is our THIRD QUARTER science unit:
WEATHER SYSTEMS--
General Weather Information:

WEATHER VS. CLIMATE:
LEARNING TARGET: I will explain the difference between weather and climate.
|
*Please note Study Jams will not work on your Ipads (unless you have upgraded flash players or an app to watch them.) The Puffin App (it is free) will allow you to watch them on your Ipad.*
The *ABOVE* Brainpop on Weather--reviews all major Weather Systems concepts we will cover this quarter
|
Seasonal Weather Changes:
LEARNING TARGET:
*I will explain why different parts of the world have different weather.
*I will explain why we have seasons and how that affects our weather around the world.
*I will explain why different parts of the world have different weather.
*I will explain why we have seasons and how that affects our weather around the world.

Weather Instruments/Tools:
LEARNING TARGET: I will describe different weather instruments and how they are used to measure different elements of weather.
|
|
Heat Transfer:
LEARNING TARGET: I can describe and explain how heat is transferred.
Water Cycle:
LEARNING TARGET: I will describe and explain how the water cycle works and how it relates to our weather.
|
|
Clouds/Precipitation:
LEARNING TARGET: I will explain and describe the different types of clouds and the weather associated with those clouds.

Severe Weather:
LEARNING TARGET: I will explain and describe different types of weather and how they form.
Fronts and Air Masses:
LEARNING TARGETS:
*I can describe Air Masses and how they affect our weather.
*I can describe what a front is and how it moves across the world.
*I can explain how a front affects our weather.

Air Pressure and Wind:
LEARNING TARGETS:
*I will define air pressure and describe how it relates to our changing weather.

Global Winds & Local Winds:
LEARNING TARGET: I will define and explain Global Winds.
|
|
OCEAN (water) CURRENTS (Gulf Stream)
and AIR CURRENTS (Jet Stream):
and AIR CURRENTS (Jet Stream):
LEARNING TARGET: I will define and explain different types of currents including ocean currents and air currents (Jet Stream).

|
El Nino (Warmer and Wet) and La Nina (Cooler and Dry):
**El Nino and La Nina are climate cycles that happen ON AVERAGE every 2-5 years.
**El Nino and La Nina is the result of the ocean and the tropical part of the atmosphere interacting
***El Niño is linked to increased precipitation and that is why there are floods--BUT lower than normal HURRICANES.
**La Nina--Unusually Cold weather in Pacific, therefore warmer weather everywhere else-AND Higher than normal amount of HURRICANES in the Atlantic ocean.
